The young women who come to Reel Grrls gain invaluable leadership skills at all ages. Year after year, 95% of our participants state that they feel more confident being a leader after participating in our program. Reel Grrls alumnae are vibrant, articulate, and engaged citizens who are ready for college, a career, and life. Each year, young women who entered our program unsure if they would pursue higher education find scholarship and college opportunities.
Reel Grrls alumnae go on to schools across the country, including the University of Washington, Seattle Central Community College, Loyola Marymount University, University of Idaho, Mount Holyoke, Chapman University, New York University, Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art, University of Southern California, University of British Columbia, and more!
Teaching girls media literacy is a cornerstone of the Reel Grrls program. Through mainstream media, girls get a skewed and limited perception of their place in society, their body image, their career possibilities as well as possible leadership roles for women. Our media literacy programs train girls to take a critical eye to the media they consume, expanding their sense of possibility while developing a healthier sense of self, body, and identity.
“What Reel Grrls is doing is making a difference in awesome ways, for me and for plenty of other lucky young ladies. Whether it be in film or just developing confidence that we can apply to every situation out there in the world.”
